The Mother Church of San Nicola Bishop is from the first documents, the first of the three parish Melissa and his parish priest was called archpriest. Located in the midst of the city was the seat of two lay Confraternities of the Blessed Sacrament and of the SS.mo Rosary. Being the most important there met all the clergy of the city to celebrate religious functions. It preserved the sacrament of the Eucharist, placed in a case a gilded wooden, the only baptismal font of the city and the sanctuary. With the Bishop of Umbriatico Coccopalmeri Zechariah, were implemented urgent restoration, completed at the end of the Eighteenth Century. The building underwent a new intervention of restoration toward the middle of the nineteenth century, when it was also rebuilt a supporting wall collapsed already several times.
