Church of San Francesco di Paola

Church of San Francesco di Paola

The Church of San Francesco di Paola was built in the 19th century and is the most recent church built in Melissa. It was built on the site of the pre-existing church of Santa Maria dei Francesi, dating back to 1690. Its structure has a single nave.
In a glass niche, there is an evocative sculpture from 185 AD, depicting the saint and of considerable artistic value, made of hornbeam wood; next to it is the statue of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii. In the surrounding area of the building, there are four statues in niches, contemporary works by the artist Romolo Rizzuti, representing St. Francis of Paola, St. Sebastian, St. Peter and St. Paul. Inside, the apse features a huge mosaic depicting Jesus among his disciples. Outside, you can see the 18th-century plaque commemorating the cult of St. Cesareo and St. Aloi.
