The ladin village of San Martino in Badia (Sankt Martin in Thurn in German, San Martin de Tor in Ladin) attracts especially hikers in summer. Here you can admire the characteristics Viles, rural settlements of the Ladin culture. Moreover the Peitlerkofel, one of the most scenic mountains of the Dolomites, watches over this beautiful tourist town. Infinite paths lead through the UNESCO world natural heritage and the Natural Park Puez-Odle fascinates its visitors with a fauna and flora of rare beauty.
The toponym is attested as Saint Martin in Geder in 1260, Sand Martein in 1334 and St. Martin an der Gader in 1883, while Thurn is attested as Thurn or Tor and refers probably to the nearby Castel Tor (in German Schloss Thurn, in Ladin Ciastel de Tor).
