In Pigna, in Liguria, time and life depend on the passing of the seasons, while the rules and standards are imposed by the climate. The enchantment of the places is biblical. The sea is very close, nevertheless we are already in the mountains: this can be witnessed by the majestic migration of birds, the impervious heights, the wonderful panoramas, the smells and scents of the land.
Pigna presents itself like a waterfall of ancient houses reunited as a "pigna" (pine cone), crossed by narrow "chibi' (dark steep lanes): a cluster of houses that descends gently along a soft hill, while up high the bulk of the medieval bell tower resists proudly. The frescoes of Canavesio in the small church of San Bernardo and the magnificent ruins of the San Tommaso one, downstream of the village, can be admired in its full splendour as proof of the cultural and artistic patrimony of the village.
A change of direction leads us to Buggio, pastoral and rural centre, which ends with the spectacular central square. The hamlet is the starting point for numerous walks in the Nervia Valley and the Natural Regional Park of Ligurian Alps with several chances to go on excursions during the day or to visit for example the cave of "Rugli", the largest among the numerous caves of the territory; instead, to go back in time you can visit the rooms of the museum "The Earth and Memory" located under the Piazza XX Settembre.
