Genga

Located in the heart of the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Park is the village of Genga. Known for the Frasassi Caves, the village is enclosed within the walls of the small medieval castle and is also famous for the largest living nativity scene in the world by extension, inside the Gola di Frasassi.

Genga is located in the heart of the Regional Park of the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi and boasts the recognition of the Bandiera Arancione. Enclosed within the walls of the small medieval castle surrounded by nature, whose origins are well known because of its antiquity, is known for the Caves of Frasassi.

In the castle of Genga it is worth visiting the museum Arte, history, territory at the Palazzo Fiumi Sermattei, a real treasure trove of art and history with works by Antonio da Fabriano. Nearby there is the Temple of the Valadier, built in 1828 thanks to the Pope of Genga, Leo XII and in the surroundings it is worth visiting the Castle of Pierosara, formerly Castel Petroso with its civic tower and the old gateway to the town, and in the fraction of San Vittore, the Church of San Vittore alle Chiuse of the eleventh century, a Romanesque building with a Greek cross, in which  the fossil of ichthyosaur, a reptile of marine environment that lived during the Mesozoic Era, is preserved.

Genga is also famous for the largest living nativity in the world by extension, covering an area of ""about 30,000 square meters inside the Frasassi Gorge, in fact its representation is one of the most significant events of this village, together with the Festa d'Autunno, that takes place between the end of October and early November.
In Genga, rural farmhouses provide excellent salami and tasty hams that can be tasted with the black bread produced with local wheat. The tagliatelle spread with the lasagnolo are a single dish served with asparagus or mushroom sauce, depending on the season. The wine, produced on these hills of the Marche, enriches the table. Other specialties are: crescia cooked under the embers, snails, polenta with wild boar ragù, vincisgrassi and mistrà.
