History and culture

Founded in the 12th century by the Genoese Doria family, Castelsardo bears witness to a history spanning thousands of years. Its symbol, the Castle of the Dorias, dominates the town and encloses within it the Museum of Mediterranean Interweaving, a living tribute to local craft traditions. Strolling through the village streets, one discovers aristocratic palaces, ancient churches such as the Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate, and panoramic terraces offering spectacular views.

Nature and beaches

Castelsardo's coasts seduce with their variety: from sandy beaches like Lu Bagnu or Marina di Castelsardo to the Roccia dell'Elefante, a natural monument that enchants young and old alike. For lovers of relaxation, the crystal-clear waters and hidden coves are a true paradise; sportsmen, on the other hand, can ride the winds by windsurfing or sailing at locations such as Punta La Capra.

On the table in Castelsardo

Castelsardo cuisine is a journey of the senses, ranging from the freshest seafood - lobsters, lobsters, urchins - to traditional recipes based on lamb and pecorino cheese, not to mention typical desserts such as pardulas and sebadas. Castelsardo, besides having maintained and preserved its historical riches and its centuries-long history linked to its position on the gulf, owes very tasty traditions to the sea. In fact, typical of the village are all fish dishes, especially lobsters alla castellanese (with a sauce made from the lobsters' eggs), lobsters, spider crabs, mullet, zerri, san pietro fish, urchins and seafood.

Why visit Castelsardo

With a mix of scenery, history and cuisine, Castelsardo is not just a vacation destination but a journey through time that fascinates and leaves an indelible mark. A pearl of the Mediterranean where the beauty of nature blends with human genius, it is ideal for a romantic getaway, a family vacation or a sustainable tourism experience. In addition, the village of Castelsardo is a stage for cultural and religious events worth experiencing, such as the evocative rites of Holy Week. Each festival is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the folklore and traditions of this unspoiled corner of Sardinia.
