Calascio

Calascio is a charming village located in the heart of Abruzzo, exactly in the province of L’Aquila. Set at an altitude of 1,460 meters, it is one of the highest villages in the central Apennines, characterized by a breathtaking landscape composed of majestic peaks and green valleys.
The village is mainly known for the presence of the striking Rocca Calascio Castle, an ancient manor house dating back to the 10th century that overlooks the vast panorama of Abruzzo, offering spectacular 360-degree views.
Calascio’s streets are timeless, with stone buildings that retain the atmosphere of the past and wind through a labyrinth of alleyways eliciting a timeless atmosphere. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere of the village is strongly linked to its rural traditions and the hospitality of its inhabitants.

Calascio is also famous for the church of Santa Maria della Pietà , a 16th-century architectural jewel located at the foot of the castle. Its circular architecture and sloping roof make it an important religious and tourist landmark.
