Bagnoli del Trigno

Village located close to a rocky massif that stands out between the Trigno river and the Vella torrent. It is divided into two areas, “Terra di sotto” and “Terra di sopra”. Bagnoli del Trigno is dialectically called “La Preta” and is one of the most picturesque towns in Molise to deserve the nickname “Pearl of Molise”, this because the town winds around a steep rock on which the ancient masters castle.

The origins of Bagnoli del Trigno (Vagnuolë in Molise) are unknown and are dated back to different legends, according which Bagnoli was founded by a Duke who watered in the waters of the Trigno, in another with the construction of urban centers around a thermal source (Balneoli, from which the name) and finally by some tribes to find shelter from the barbarian invasions.

The first historical date back to the Middle Ages, when the feud was part of the Contado of Molise. Subsequently, after a series of steps to property also between lords French and Spaniards, becomes part of the Kingdom of Naples and then of the Kingdom of Italy.

In the twentieth century the country has seen a strong depopulation because of emigration, especially in Rome where many bagnolesi do the work of taxi drivers.

Certainly deserve a visit to the Church of San Silvestro, the Castle San Felice and the Pandetta of Sprondasino.

The main activities of the city are agriculture and pastoralism, but in recent years have arisen various types of activities such as those in the building industry, of water industry and crafts with the machining of the stones.
