Dumpling festival in Vipiteno

The Sagra dei Canederli (Dumpling Festival) is one of the most popular gastronomic events in South Tyrol, transforming the historic centre of Vipiteno into a huge festival dedicated to one of the typical dishes of Alpine cuisine: dumpling, bread dumplings enriched with local ingredients such as speck, cheese, herbs or fruit.

The event takes place on the second Sunday in September and enlivens the streets of the Old Town and New Town with a 400-metre-long table serving dozens of variations of canederli, ranging from the classic speck and cheese to creative versions with alpine herbs, mushrooms or sweeter versions such as those with apricots or nougat.

In addition to the rich gastronomic offering, the Dumpling Festival is accompanied by live music, folk groups and entertainment that enliven the historic heart of the city, creating a festive atmosphere perfect for families, food lovers and curious visitors.

The event celebrates South Tyrol’s rich culinary tradition and offers the opportunity to discover the culture, hospitality and authentic flavours of this Alpine region in an evocative historical setting.
