Historical re-enactment of the origins of Borlengo di Guiglia

The historical re-enactment of the origins of Guiglia’s Borlengo is a fascinating event that transports the village of Guiglia back in time, transforming its castle into an authentic medieval setting. Scheduled for 9 and 10 May 2026, the event combines history, culinary tradition and entertainment, offering an immersive experience for visitors of all ages.

At the heart of the event is the re-enactment of the 1266 siege of Guiglia Castle, a historical episode linked to the figure of Count Ugolino and the birth of the famous Borlengo, a typical speciality of the Modena area. For the occasion, the castle courtyard comes alive with a medieval encampment reconstructed down to the smallest detail, where re-enactors bring scenes of daily life from the period to life, featuring ancient crafts, weapons and combat demonstrations.

Visitors are free to explore the camp, examine armour and warfare techniques up close, and take part in engaging activities such as archery and simulated sword duels. The experience is designed to be interactive, appealing to both history enthusiasts and families with children.

Over the two days, there is no shortage of entertainment and activities, with games and events for children, as well as the chance to tour the castle accompanied by expert guides who share fascinating facts and historical tales about the village and its medieval past.

One of the most evocative events is the medieval-themed lunch, where participants can enjoy a unique convivial experience, immersed in the atmosphere of the era and in the company of the count and his court. The undisputed star of the show is, of course, borlengo, a symbol of local tradition, prepared and served according to ancient recipes.

This re-enactment is not merely a historical event, but a true celebration of Guiglia’s identity, capable of recounting, through performances, flavours and traditions, an authentic slice of Emilian history.
