Feast of Our Lady of the Sea

From 29 May to 7 June 2026, Porto Garibaldi, the oldest of Comacchio’s seven beach resorts, celebrates the evocative Feast of Our Lady of the Sea, one of the most cherished events in the local maritime tradition, bringing together faith, emotion and conviviality in an authentic atmosphere overlooking the Adriatic.

For several days, the harbour and the town’s streets come alive with musical events, food stalls, a funfair, religious services and activities for adults and children alike. At the heart of the event is the ‘Terra & Mare’ stall, where visitors can sample local specialities and traditional seafood dishes in a festive and convivial atmosphere.

The most moving moment of the event takes place on Sunday 7 June with the traditional Procession at Sea. After setting off from the Church of Porto Garibaldi on Viale Nino Bonnet, the statue of the Madonna is accompanied by fishing boats along the canal and out to sea in a deeply symbolic ceremony steeped in devotion. During the ceremony, a wreath is cast into the sea in memory of those lost at sea, paying tribute to the community’s maritime history and identity.

With music, local flavours, spirituality and folk traditions, the Feast of Our Lady of the Sea offers a special opportunity to experience Porto Garibaldi in its most authentic form, feeling the strong bond that unites the town with the sea and its people.
