Borgate in Festa
Event description
From 11 to 13 July 2026, the ancient hamlets of Sappada Vecchia will come alive once more with ‘Borgate in Festa’, one of the most authentic and distinctive summer events in the Dolomites. For three days, the historic hamlets of Hoffe, Fontana and Kratten are transformed into a vast open-air museum where traditions, craftsmanship, gastronomy and Alpine culture come to life in a unique atmosphere.
The event celebrates the identity of Sappada Plodn, showcasing the cultural heritage of a community that still preserves ancient crafts, centuries-old traditions and a strong connection to its local area. Strolling amongst the villages’ characteristic wooden houses, visitors can experience an authentic immersion in the history and customs of the Friulian mountains.
Throughout the event, craft markets, food stalls and areas dedicated to demonstrations of traditional crafts will be open. Woodcarvers, blacksmiths, artisans and master carvers will demonstrate their techniques live, allowing the public to observe craft practices handed down from generation to generation.
Among the most spectacular events are woodcarving demonstrations and chainsaw displays, alongside sessions dedicated to the mask-makers of the Alpine Arc and the presentation of the famous Sappadino Plodar Vosenocht Carnival, one of the most important folk traditions in the entire Alpine Arc.
The event will also offer numerous activities for families. Younger children can take part in creative workshops, games and educational activities, whilst adults will have the opportunity to join cultural walks through the ancient hamlets, visits to the Sappada vineyard, sessions dedicated to traditional local recipes and evocative Shinrin-Yoku experiences – the forest bathing that allows you to rediscover a sense of wellbeing through direct contact with nature.
Music will provide the backdrop for the entire weekend, with concerts, folk groups, street music and evenings dedicated to rock and DJ sets. Guests include the folk group Holzhockar, the Sappada-based musicians Die Plodar Kryner and the band Bruno e i Belli Dentro, who will headline the festive evenings.
The programme will be further enriched by art exhibitions, including illustrations by the renowned Trentino artist Fabio Vettori, as well as numerous craft demonstrations taking place throughout the village’s streets.
Of course, there will be no shortage of culinary delights. The stalls will offer traditional dishes from Sappada and mountain specialities prepared according to local recipes, giving visitors the chance to discover the authentic flavours of the Dolomites.
Borgate in Festa is much more than just a summer festival: it is a journey into Alpine culture, the traditions of Sappada and the beauty of one of Italy’s most charming mountain villages. An event that brings together history, nature, music and conviviality in an authentic experience to be enjoyed amongst the ancient hamlets of Sappada Vecchia.
