Madonna della Libera celebrations
Event description
The Feast of the Madonna della Libera is celebrated every year on 8 September in Alatri and is one of the religious events most deeply cherished by the local community, dedicated to the town’s co-patron saint.
The heart of the celebration is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, situated in the square of the same name, where the striking fresco of the Madonna della Libera, attributed to the Giotto school, is housed. The work represents an important artistic and spiritual heritage, deeply linked to the devotion of the faithful.
Throughout the day, religious celebrations take place, drawing locals and visitors alike into an atmosphere of contemplation and tradition. The festival then continues into the evening with musical performances and entertainment, transforming the historic centre into a place of gathering and conviviality.
The Feast of the Madonna della Libera combines faith, art and popular participation, offering a genuine opportunity to experience the traditions of Alatri in an evocative and engaging atmosphere.
