25th Porcino Festival
Event description
The San Martino Cultural Association of Castelvecchio (Sante Marie – AQ)
presents the 25th Porcino Festival
12 and 13 August 2026 | Via Pordenone (formerly Piazza E. Galvaligi)
From 7.00 pm until late at night – Dinner only
In the heart of Abruzzo, amongst ancient alleyways, the scents of the woodland and views that tell of centuries of history, stands Castelvecchio, a little gem nestled in the municipality of Sante Marie.
It is here that, every year on 12 and 13 August, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the summer comes to life: the Porcino Festival, which this year proudly celebrates its 25th edition.
For a quarter of a century, this event has attracted hundreds of visitors from Abruzzo, Lazio and Rome, all united by a desire to enjoy an authentic experience centred on flavours, traditions and conviviality.
The festival is the result of the efforts of the San Martino Cultural Association, with the support of the Municipality of Sante Marie, but above all thanks to the love and dedication of its inhabitants, the ‘castegliovecchiani’, who every year open the doors of their village and their hearts to welcome anyone wishing to share in this celebration.
As you stroll through the charming narrow streets of Castrum Veterum, an ancient settlement dating back to between the 11th and 13th centuries, you will be enveloped by the aromas of traditional Abruzzese cuisine and the warmth of a community that proudly cherishes its roots.
You can sample delicious dishes made with porcini mushrooms, savour traditional local specialities and be won over by the desserts prepared with care and passion by our grandmothers and mothers, the guardians of ancient recipes that tell stories of family and the local area.
But the Sagra del Porcino is much more than just a food festival.
It is the pleasure of gathering round a lavishly laid table. It is the smile of those who welcome you as a friend. It is the music that fills the squares on summer evenings. It is the scent of the woodland mingling with that of freshly prepared dishes. It is the value of traditions that continue to live on through the people.
It is an experience made up of simple, authentic emotions, to be shared with friends, family and all those who love to rediscover the charm of small villages and the genuine hospitality of Abruzzo.
Year after year, the success of this event grows thanks to the affection of those who return and those discovering it for the first time, who always find the same sincere welcome and the same unique atmosphere.
This year, to celebrate this very special edition, the ‘Pesca Porcina’ will be back, organised by the youth group, and for the first time there will be stalls selling handmade products.
Let yourself be enchanted by the flavours, traditions and magic of Castelvecchio.
We look forward to seeing you on 12 and 13 August to celebrate the 25th Porcino Festival together.
Don’t miss it, because the best moments are those shared together. 🍄❤️🏡
