On Thursday 13 August 2026, the historic centre of Varzi, one of the most charming villages in the Oltrepò Pavese region, will once again be lit up by the Market under the Stars, a special evening which this year has the theme “Return to the Past”, a tribute to the origins of an event that has attracted thousands of visitors over the years.
The 2026 edition aims to bring back to life the atmosphere that made this event famous: alleyways lit by torches and candles, open courtyards, live music, gatherings, scents, flavours and that magic which, for one night, transforms Varzi into one of the most evocative places of the Lombard summer.
From 6.00 pm, the streets of the village will host the traditional market featuring stalls selling artistic crafts, local produce, gastronomic specialities and gifts, offering visitors the chance to stroll through the ancient medieval streets and discover the region’s finest products.
There will also be a well-stocked street food area, where visitors can sample local produce and traditional dishes from the Oltrepò Pavese region, accompanied by live music, travelling performances and entertainment designed for all ages.
One of the most enchanting aspects of the event will be the romantic atmosphere that will envelop the village: soft lighting, torches, candles and tables set up in the characteristic courtyards of the historic centre will make the ‘Market under the Stars’ the perfect opportunity to enjoy an al fresco dinner whilst soaking up the charm of Varzi.
The evening will also be enriched by exhibitions, art displays and an interesting exhibition curated by the Italian Red Cross, entitled ‘Toy Soldiers Tell the Story of Military Healthcare’, which will offer an original insight into history through models and reconstructions.
Combining tradition, culture, gastronomy and atmosphere, the ‘Market under the Stars’ is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the summer in the Oltrepò Pavese region – an event that showcases the village of Varzi and offers visitors an authentic experience filled with emotion, conviviality and beauty.
