Medieval Festival – The Triumph of Gabriello Malaspina, 1487

The village of Fosdinovo, dominated by the imposing Malaspina Castle, once again takes a step back in time with the 25th Medieval Festival – The Triumph of Gabriello Malaspina 1487, one of the most fascinating historical re-enactments in the Lunigiana region.

For two days, the historic centre will be transformed into an authentic 15th-century village, where historical processions, ladies, knights, soldiers and costumed participants will bring the atmosphere of the Malaspina court to life, immersing visitors of all ages in an experience steeped in history, culture and tradition.

Among the most eagerly awaited events is the evocative Triumphal Procession, which will wind its way through the village streets, re-enacting the return of Gabriello II Malaspina, accompanied by nobles, soldiers and commoners. The traditional Court Banquet is also a major highlight, during which visitors can savour dishes inspired by medieval cuisine in an atmosphere of times gone by.

The programme will feature theatrical performances based on local history, travelling shows, medieval music, historical games, combat displays, military encampments, demonstrations of traditional crafts and workshops offering an insight into the customs and traditions of the 15th century.

History enthusiasts will also be able to attend talks on Gabriello II Malaspina and village life in the 15th century, as well as visit the exhibition ‘At the Court of the Malaspinas from the 12th to the 15th Century’, which traces the evolution of this powerful noble family and its territory.

Throughout the event, there will be medieval-themed markets, areas dedicated to historical crafts and numerous food and drink outlets scattered throughout the village, where visitors can sample local specialities and traditional dishes.

The Fosdinovo Medieval Festival is one of the most important events dedicated to historical re-enactment in Tuscany, thanks to the participation of the entire community, numerous local associations and historical groups from all over Italy and abroad.
