Tuscany Medieval Festival
Event description
From 2 to 4 October 2026, the magnificent fortified village of Monteriggioni, in the province of Siena, will host the Tuscany Medieval Festival, one of Italy’s largest events dedicated to the historical re-enactment of the Middle Ages. For three days, the ancient walls of the famous castle will once again be filled with knights, ladies, soldiers, merchants, craftsmen and artists, offering visitors an authentic journey back in time.
Following the success of the traditional spring edition, the Tuscany Medieval Festival is coming to Monteriggioni for the first time – one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval villages – transforming its squares and streets into a vast open-air historical theatre.
The event’s motto, ‘Welcome to history’, perfectly encapsulates its spirit: not merely a re-enactment, but an immersive experience that allows visitors to experience the Middle Ages in all its facets, through entertainment, culture and traditions.
Over the course of the three days, the village will come alive with historical encampments, jousting tournaments, combat demonstrations, falconry displays, street performers, jesters, minstrels, musicians, flag-wavers and fire-eaters, all recreating the atmosphere of the great medieval fairs.
There will also be the traditional medieval market, where artisans and merchants will offer goods crafted using ancient techniques, including items made of leather, wood and wrought iron, jewellery, historical costumes, ceramics and numerous products inspired by medieval tradition.
A great deal of attention will also be devoted to the cultural aspect. Visitors will be able to gain a deeper understanding of aspects of daily life in the Middle Ages through demonstrations of ancient crafts, historical exhibitions, informative talks and educational activities that will provide an insight into the customs, traditions and techniques of the period.
The festival will also feature musical performances, historical dance displays, theatrical performances and numerous activities for families and children, ensuring an engaging experience for all age groups.
The extraordinary setting of Monteriggioni, with its perfectly preserved city walls and towers overlooking the hills of Siena, will make the atmosphere of the event all the more evocative. Strolling through the streets of the village during the Tuscany Medieval Festival is an experience that brings to life the charm, colours and emotions of one of the most fascinating periods in European history.
With knights, ladies, traditional crafts, performances and culture, the 2026 Tuscany Medieval Festival is set to be an unmissable event for fans of historical re-enactments and for anyone wishing to spend a weekend immersed in the magic of the Middle Ages in the heart of Tuscany.
