Flower Festival in Scarperia

The Flower Festival in Scarperia is one of the most evocative and distinctive events in the village, transforming the historic centre into a veritable open-air art gallery. On Sunday 24 May, the penultimate Sunday of the month, Scarperia is decked out in colours and scents for the 45th edition of the historic exhibition of floral paintings created directly on the streets and squares of the town.

The streets of the historic centre become the stage for spectacular ephemeral works, created using only natural elements: flower petals, leaves, shades of green and brown, with the bright colours of carnations giving life to compositions of great visual impact. Each edition revolves around a common theme, and for 2026 the theme will be ‘Collodi and the Adventures of Pinocchio’, a tribute to the famous fairy tale that inspires designs rich in imagination and meaning.

The preparation of the Infiorata is a collective event that actively involves the community. After choosing the theme, sketches are drawn on paper and then traced in chalk on the pavement. The evening before the event, the delicate phase of petalling the flowers takes place, while on the morning of the Infiorata, the petals are laid one by one on a layer of glue, with patience and precision, offering visitors the chance to witness the creation of the works live.

The initiative takes place along Via Roma and in the two main squares of the village, Piazza Clasio and Piazza dei Vicari. The floral paintings are created by the districts of Via Roma and the district of the Scarperia Primary and Secondary Schools, making the event a genuine moment of participation and local pride.
