The Rodolico Shipyard in Aci Trezza is a rare and living testament to the ancient craft of wooden boatbuilding. Active since 1808 and passed down through five generations, it was founded by Salvatore Rodolico and has produced a wide range of artisanal vessels—from small sardare to 40-meter fishing boats, some of which have sailed as far as Greece and Tunisia.
Despite challenges from modern regulations and the decline of traditional fishing, the shipyard has been recognized as a Common Good and Collective Heritage. Thanks to initiatives like Emotional Sicily, it continues to preserve and share this rich legacy through traditional boat construction, educational projects, and documentaries.
Today, the Rodolico Shipyard is more than a workplace—it is a living museum, open to visitors who can witness live demonstrations, explore scale models, and hear the stories of the Rodolico family, whose craft has been officially honored by the Sicilian Region as a Living Human Treasure. A true emblem of Aci Trezza’s maritime identity.
