Rustic Middle Ages

Every summer, in the heart of the picturesque medieval village of Canale di Tenno, time seems to go back centuries with the Rustic Middle Ages, one of the most fascinating historical reenactments in Trentino. For a few days, cobbled alleys, small squares and ancient “vòlti” are transformed into an authentic open-air stage, enlivened by medieval atmospheres, scents of traditional cuisine and impressive performances.

Jesters, minstrels, storytellers, thespians, acrobats and musicians take turns in the streets of the village, giving guests moments of wonder and fun, while costumed figures recreate scenes of life in the past: ancient markets, duels, religious processions and moments of medieval everyday life. Every corner of the village is decorated with banners, flags and flashlights, creating an atmosphere suspended between history and legend.

There is no shortage of traditional games for adults and children: from sack races to treasure hunts, from piñata games to skill tests inspired by ancient medieval crosses. All made even more engaging by the authentic setting of the village, which preserves its 13th-century architecture intact.

One of the most anticipated moments of the event is the opening of the taverns and “ere,” where volunteers from the local committee passionately offer dishes typical of the lower Trentino region: polenta and peveraà, goulash, pork legs, canederli, cod, mushrooms and homemade desserts, served in settings that retain the rustic charm of the era.

Rustic Middle Ages is more than an event: it is a total immersion in a past world, capable of engaging the senses and awakening ancient emotions, in the enchanting setting of one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.
