The Molinetto della Croda, set in the green Lierza valley in the municipality of Refrontolo, is one of the most fascinating and iconic places in the Marca Trevigiana. Built in 1630, this ancient water mill is an authentic example of Veneto rural architecture, capable of telling, through its stone and wood walls, almost four centuries of history, work and farming traditions.

The name “Croda” comes from the Venetian dialect term meaning “rock”: the mill, in fact, is literally leaning against a rocky wall from which the waters of the Lierza stream plunge, forming a scenic waterfall about twelve meters high. Inside you can visit the original stone millstone, put back into operation after careful restoration, and the various rooms that once housed the millers’ families.

The site is located along the Strada del Prosecco e dei Vini dei Colli di Conegliano Valdobbiadene, among hills embroidered with vineyards and woods, in one of Italy’s most evocative wine-growing landscapes, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Molinetto, which remained in operation until 1953, was subsequently carefully restored, returning visitors to an authentic place where history and nature coexist in perfect harmony.

Today the mill is a museum and exhibition space, with multimedia paths that tell the story of rural life and the history of the area. Its timeless beauty has inspired artists, photographers and filmmakers – including Marcello Mastroianni and Laura Antonelli, who shot some scenes of the film Mogliamante (1977) there.
