Church of Sant’Anna

Church of Sant’Anna

The Church of Sant’Anna in Champoluc, now used as a cinema, stands as a significant testament to the village’s religious history, having served as its main church for many years. The first chapel dedicated to the saint dates back to 1715, whilst the present building was constructed in 1836 at the behest of the parish priest, François-Marie Dandrès.

Above the nineteenth-century portal, a circular fresco is still visible, depicting Saint Anne teaching the Holy Scriptures to the young Mary; Saint Joachim also appears behind them, completing the scene of great symbolic and devotional value.

The original furnishings, including the wooden altar and some paintings from the old church, were transferred and preserved in the new religious building constructed next door, thus keeping alive the historical and artistic memory of this ancient place of worship.
