The Church of San Lorenzo in Bobbio has been documented since 1144, although the building has undergone several alterations and transformations over the centuries. Towards the end of the 13th century, the church was administered by a lay brotherhood known as the ‘Battuti’ or ‘Disciplinati’, groups of faithful devoted to prayer and penitential practices.
In the 17th century, the building was enlarged, remodelling and integrating the older structure. On the left side of the church is the so-called Segnorino slab, a stone dating back to the 12th century that is one of the oldest historical artefacts linked to the site.
The interior has a single nave and preserves an element of particular value: a refined wooden choir from the church of the convent of San Francesco di Bobbio, testimony to the woodworking art and religious tradition of the area.
