The village

This small island, characterized by spectacular white limestone rocks and exceptional biodiversity, is an open book on Mediterranean history. Levanzo’s ancient Greek name was Phorbantia, a tribute to its lush vegetation. Famous for the historic battle of the Egadi that took place in 241 B.C. between the Romans and Carthaginians, the island still tells these stories today through the archaeological remains found in its seabed.

A place where you can breathe an atmosphere of other times. Here, in fact, there are no cars; the quiet is broken only by the crashing of the waves or the flight of seagulls. The local gastronomy celebrates simplicity and authenticity, with dishes such as “Cabbucio alla levanzara”, a flattened sandwich made with the same dough as pizza, popular in the province of Trapani.

The Grotta del Genovese is perhaps one of the most striking testimonials to Levanzo’s past, where inside are rock paintings and graffiti dating back to the Upper Paleolithic, an extraordinary specimen of prehistoric art that places the island as an international cultural and historical landmark.

Landscape, beaches and coves

The highest point on the island is Pizzo Monaco, from which there are panoramic views across the clear waters from Monte Cofano to Erice and beyond. The vegetation, now dense now bare, fits perfectly with the rocky landscape created by the forces of nature.

Levanzo, moreover, is surrounded by coves and beaches of rare beauty, such as Cala Calcara, Cala Tramontana, Cala Faraglione (among the most beautiful and famous in Italy) and Cala Minnola, each with its own particularities and quiet, reserved atmosphere. The crystal clear water also offers the ideal opportunity for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, who can explore an underwater world rich in life and history here.
