In the heart of the town of Vinci, birthplace of the universal genius Leonardo, stands a sculpture that celebrates the symbolic meeting of cultures, eras and artistic languages: “Dialogue Beyond Time and Space” by Chinese artist Wu Weishan. Donated to the city in January 2020, the work is a tribute to art as a force capable of uniting peoples and breaking down the barriers of time and space.
The bronze composition depicts Leonardo da Vinci, master of the Italian Renaissance, and Qi Baishi, considered the father of modern Chinese painting. Although the two artists lived in distant times and places, they are depicted ideally sharing a moment of dialogue and reflection. It is an imaginary but powerfully evocative encounter, celebrating the universality of ingenuity and creativity.
The statue is located on the terrace in front of the Palazzina Uzielli, one of the headquarters of the Museo Leonardiano, in the historic center of Vinci. The choice of the location is not random: immersed in a landscape that recalls the one Leonardo admired in his childhood, this space amplifies the meaning of the work, harmoniously integrating it into the natural and cultural context of the village.
Through this installation, Wu Weishan invites the viewer to reflect on the importance of confrontation between civilizations and the ability of art to build lasting bridges across borders and generations.
