The Castle of Brolo

The castle in the village of Brolo, Sicily, dates back to the 10th century AD and is situated on a charming promontory overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was a coveted seat of nobility, as well as the residence of Princess Bianca Lancia, wife of Emperor Frederick II and mother of Manfred, King of Sicily. Illustrious travelers and artists have stayed in Brolo Castle, enraptured by the dazzling beauty of the place. The building in Norman times was known by the name Voab, the meaning of which is Rocca Marina, because of its geographical and strategic location.

Of the original complex of the castle remains the curtain wall, the two entrance portals and a courtyard arranged as a garden with a hexagonal well, all surmounted by the bulk of the medieval tower, which rises four levels culminating in a crenellated terrace. On the second floor of the tower is the beautiful reception hall and the panoramic balcony, from which it is possible to admire a section of the Saracen Coast in the direction of Messina.
