Hosted inside the Scontrone Town Hall, M.I.D.A. the “International Museum of Women in Art,” is a unique permanent museum in Italy and Europe, entirely dedicated to women’s artistic expressions. This extraordinary space brings together works of painting, photography and sculpture created by women artists from over forty countries, offering a true journey into female creativity and the cultural variety that each artist brings.
The museum was created thanks to the “Rose’s Choice” project, curated by Lino Alviani and held in several editions from 2002 to 2010, which helped make Scontrone an international reference point for contemporary female art. In the halls of the M.I.D.A., works are distributed in different sections: the left wing contains photographs, sculptures and paintings, while the central and right areas display the winning creations of the Teofilo Patini Prizes.
This last award is dedicated to the culture of the mountain territory and celebrates artists capable of recounting, with sensitivity and visual immediacy, the traditions and authentic soul of our mountains. Although some catalogs of the first editions are available, the current layout no longer corresponds faithfully to their sequence, but it keeps intact the charm and heterogeneity of the works on display.
The M.I.D.A. thus represents a unique experience, combining art, culture and territorial identity, inviting visitors to discover stories and visions through the gaze of women from all over the world.
