Inaugurated in 2001, the Deer Wildlife Area extends a short distance from the town of Sasso di Castalda, in Basilicata, and is an ideal place for educational activities, nature excursions and moments of immersive observation in nature.
Deer, the protagonists of the area, move freely within a large fenced area but structured to reproduce environments similar to their natural habitat, offering visitors the chance to observe them up close without disturbing them. The area is accessible year-round, and is particularly fascinating during the fall rutting season, when males compete for dominance over the herd.
Designed to engage schools, families, and wildlife enthusiasts, the area is a virtuous example of conservation and environmental awareness. A perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with one of Europe’s most majestic ungulates and appreciate the unspoiled beauty of the Lucanian landscape.
