Palazzo Nesci

Located in the main square of the village of Bova, Palazzo Nesci Sant’Agata is one of the town’s most representative historic buildings. Built in the 18th century, it was severely damaged in the 1783 earthquake, but was later carefully restored in the late 19th century, preserving its original structure and noble imprint.

The palace has two floors and consists of two buildings arranged in an “L” shape around an inner courtyard, with a square floor plan. The symmetrical facade is embellished with mixed-face masonry with the insertion of large square stone ashlars, giving the building solidity and character. The elegant, round-arched portal is flanked by two pilasters supporting a stone entablature, in the center of which stands the heraldic coat of arms of the Nesci family, the palace’s former owners.

Toward the end of the 19th century, a side vault was added that connects the upper floor to a panoramic terrace, built on a rocky outcrop that offers a breathtaking view of the Ionian Sea and the valley below, making the palace a place of rare beauty.

During the 20th century, the building also housed a society casino and a small theater, becoming a landmark for Bova’s cultural and social life. Today, the upper floor retains its residential function, while the ground floor houses businesses that animate the square on a daily basis, testifying to the living link between past and present.
