The Collegiate church of St Mary by the Sea in Maiori was built in the XIII century, expanding the pre-existing church dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo, is situated on a hill placed in the center of the town and takes its name from the statue that according to tradition would have been found in 1204 on the beach.
