Guercino, history and mysteries

Piacenza is synonymous with enchanted villages, with Bobbio, Castell’Arquato and Vigoleno that stand out in the mosaic of the territory and tell an ancient story. And it is no less Piacenza, whose cathedral houses in its beautiful dome the precious frescoes of Guercino: a treasure trove of secret places and historical-artistic routes. You can admire the cathedral of Piacenza in a privileged position from the roof top of the "Lounge Bar La Terrazza" - on the seventh floor - of the INC Hotel Group's Grande Albergo Roma, perhaps sipping an aperitif: from here the gaze can range to three hundred and sixty degrees on the heart of the city. Inside the cathedral, on the other hand, you can access the new Kronos-Museo del Duomo, inaugurated in April and open until 7 July 2018, an event that is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. With the exhibition "I Mysteries of the cathedral, wonders in the labyrinth of knowledge "we discover the medieval miniated Codes of Piacenza as the" Book of the Master ", the most important volume of the cathedral archives - from the 12th century - custodian of notions of astronomy, astrology, uses and costumes related to life in the fields, in addition to the first liturgical dramas. The exhibition is set up in some secret places of the cathedral, like a real medieval labyrinth, and an uphill path leads visitors to the dome. Moreover, in an experience room, it is possible to embark on a fantastic journey through the Middle Ages thanks to the projection of the virtual library, from which the story of the code comes to life. Before reaching the dome frescoed by Guercino, you will pass through spaces like the room where the instruments used by the monks for the production of books and the hidden room of the bell tower, which houses the gears of the clock formerly placed on the façade, are preserved. The visit to the Kronos museum is free. To admire the cathedral from above and enjoy the view of Piacenza from an exclusive perspective, the Grande Albergo Roma - always part of the life and history of Piacenza and INC Hotels Group - offers stays at affordable rates.
