Inaugurated in 1996, the museum is housed inside the Rocca Farnese and consists of sections, one dedicated to prehistory and the other to the Medieval, Renaissance and modern periods. The first section displays artefacts dating from between the Lower Palaeolithic and the Iron Age from the most important sites in the Upper Lazio region.
In the second section are exhibits that tell the story of the development of the territory from the early Middle Ages onwards, with particular attention to the Farnese family between 1300 and 1600. Of great interest is the rich collection of majolica found in the "butti" of the castle, including the wedding trousseau of Pier Luigi Farnese and Gerolama Orsini (1519).
The exhibition is completed in the Etruscan room, where the collection of valuable ceramics from Cereto and Vulcenti is on display. Also accessible is the octagonal tower, 26 metres high from the ground, from which it is possible to admire a vast panorama.
