Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta

What to see in Pieve di Soligo, Treviso, Veneto

Share

The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in the village of Pieve di Soligo is a neo-Romanesque monument (with some neo-gothic elements) built in the early twentieth century by the architect Domenico Rupolo. It was consecrated in 1924. The brick salient façade is surmounted by five pinnacles and reveals the three-nave structure of the interior.

The most valuable work of art in it is the altarpiece with the Assumption of the Virgin by Francesco da Milano (1540). Other noteworthy works of art are a Crucifixion by Giovanni Possamai and a Virgin with the Child Jesus by Marta Sammartini, both twentieth century. The relics of the blessed Giuseppe Toniolo are buried here.
