Church of St. Paul the Apostle

What to see in Zavattarello, Pavia, Lombardy

the Church of St. Paul the Apostle is mentioned for the first time in 929, on the occasion of the visit of the monks of Bobbio that they were carrying at Pavia the mortal remains of St Colombano. Remodeled several times over the centuries, the building was reconsecrated in 1520 by the bishop of Piacenza Pietro de Reconda, after it was expanded in 1500. The facade was superimposed in the XVIII century the original: underwent a restoration in the occasion of the Jubilee in the year 2000. In the apse is preserved a great altarpiece from the beginning of the seventeenth century in gilded wood finely carved with an oil painting of the fifteenth century, representing the "Madonna with the Child and the Devil".
