Despite a difficult season for truffles, in the congress room of the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, Unesco site which belonged to Camillo Benso Count of Cavour and now the headquarters of the Regional Winery, broadcasting live via satellite with the headquarters of Hong Kong and this year to for the first time, with Dubai, auction participants were struggling with bids and rebounds reaching 320,000 euro.
In conjunction with prestigious bottles of Barolo and Barbaresco presented in magnum sizes, there were ten lots of Tuber Magnatum Pico presented at the auction.
Record especially for Hong Kong’s 8 1/2 Bombana restaurant, of Eugene Fung, who has won the final lot of 850 grams for the sum of 75,000 euros.
Among the three final lots, wound up in their respective headquarters, in addition to Hong Kong we also see the Meridien Dubai Hotel in Dubai and of course the Castle of Grinzane Cavour.
To lead the auction, and to present the lots, RAI journalist Elisa Isoardi, alongside Enzo Iacchetti and Roberto Ciufoli. Among the audience, chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo, named on this occasion Ambassador of White Truffle in Alba in the World, and several soccer players, including Ciro Ferrara, Alessandro Matri and Federico Peluso.
The auction earnings will be donated to the Mother’s Choice Institute for orphaned children at the Al Jalila Foundation and other Italian onlus associations.
