What to see and what to do in Metaponto Lido

Basilicata as well as other regions of Italy is a land rich in history and culture, crossed by the ancient Greeks and Romans and enriched by the Gothic and Romanesque styles that will leave you breathless.

The village of Metaponto has very ancient origins, since 1950 is a hamlet of Bernalda in the province of Matera and the inhabitants have been able to preserve and pass on the beauty of the place, starting with the castle built in 1060 and recently restored, first thing to see, and then immediately after move to Metaponto Lido, seaside resort with golden sand and crystal clear sea.

A must for those who want to spend a few days in Basilicata and looking for a place that embraces nature and the sea, it is not uncommon to find along the 35 km of coastline almost pristine beach corners that have nothing to send to those of the Caribbean.

The seaside area is located between Brandano and basento the famous rivers that flow through Matera, thanks to its proximity to Matera, over the years has grown interest and tourist offer of Metaponto Lido.

There is no shortage of beaches equipped with every comfort, including the restaurant, to enjoy the typical dishes of the place.

Metapopnto Lido

The oldest establishment, its construction dates back to the 60's is certainly Lido delle Sirene.

Over time the beach of the Sirens has been able to accommodate and adapt to customer requirements and innovation, thanks to this, today in addition to enjoying the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea you can condense space to different activities such as:

  • Play golf in the scents of citrus groves and vineyards a few steps from the sea
  • Sailing and canoeing excursions
  • Windsurfing facilities
  • Sport fishing
  • Diving

In the evening you can enjoy a dinner on the panoramic terrace and enjoy a spectacular sunset or dine in the restaurant. Catering services are available until midnight. After dinner you can enjoy the musical and artistic proposals that can be found in the surroundings.

Metaponto

The Metaponto Lido is easily accessible for those arriving from the plane of Bari, which is 120 km away, or from the airport of Brindisi, which is 120 km away.

Metaponto Lido can also be reached by train, it is 1500 meters from the station of Policoro, or by car from the north along the highway 14 exit Taranto for Reggio Calabria - Metaponto, highway A3 exit Potenza, State Road 407 Potenza - Metaponto.

If you arrived from the South, take the 106 state road to Reggio Calabria.

If after spending a few days on the beach, you want to change location, know that along Metaponto Lido you can also find a water park or rather the Acqua Azzurra Park, a park full of attractions tailored to the family, suitable for both adults and children who want to spend a day always on the water but not on the beach.

The Aquapark is open every day from Monday to Friday from 10 to 18 and Sunday from 9:30 to 18:30, the water park is also equipped with all amenities, restaurant, area equipped for children, large and small dinghy rental structure:

A curiosity with its 50,000 square meters the Acqua Azzurra Park, is one of the largest water parks in the area.

Also if you decide to spend your holidays in Metaponto Lido during the first week of Augustus, watch the preparations and celebrations in honor of St. Leo the Great.

Suggestive in this regard the Procession to the sea of the statue of the Saint and the representation on land of the landing of the Byzantine monks and the meeting between St. Leo and Attila.
