Gin and Karst Honey
Gin and Honey of Karst is an authentic experience that combines nature, agricultural tradition and unique flavors of the area of St. John of Duino – Štivan.
The day begins with a walk through centuries-old olive groves and vineyards surrounding the village, until you arrive at the main apiary of Peric D.’s Farma Jakne farm, a family business that has been preserving the tradition of beekeeping in the heart of the Karst region for five generations. During the tour, which lasts about an hour, a guide will accompany you to discover the biodiversity of this unique landscape and the fundamental role of bees.
The highlight of the experience is a guided tasting at the farm center:
- the millefiori, awarded for four consecutive years as the best honey in Friuli Venezia Giulia and among the twenty best in Italy, winner of two “golden drops” at the national competition;
- the morello cherry honey, a rare and precious Slow Food Presidium;
- the innovative HoneyGin “Nataniel”, a distillate that encapsulates the essence of the Karst through the encounter between botanicals and local honey.
An adventure suitable for even the youngest children and pet friendly, ideal for those who want to experience nature and flavors with the family or with their dog. The total duration is about 2 hours, with meeting point in front of St. John the Baptist Church.
An experience included in the Slow Food Travel circuit, designed for lovers of the outdoors, biodiversity and local food and wine excellence.
