It was in the countryside around the lake that Hannibal organised one of the greatest military ambushes in history, exploiting the natural layout of the Trasimeno valley, squeezed between the hills and the shores of the lake.

Through a modern multimedia exhibition, the museum allows visitors to relive the stages of the battle thanks to video reconstructions, educational panels, interactive touchscreens, audiovisual content and historical artefacts dedicated to the Roman and Carthaginian armies. The exhibits illustrate not only the Battle of Trasimeno, but also the historical context of the Second Punic War and the exploits of the famous Carthaginian commander.

The exhibition also features scale models, historical reconstructions and insights into the research carried out over the decades by historians who have studied the battlefield. The centre is named after Professor Giancarlo Susini, author of significant research on Lake Trasimeno and the battle, conducted between the 1950s and 1960s.

The museum also houses a rich specialist library with hundreds of volumes dedicated to the Second Punic War, Hannibal Barca and ancient Roman history, thus becoming an important cultural hub for scholars and history enthusiasts.

The museum is also the starting point for the evocative Historical Trail of Hannibal’s Battle, a nature-filled itinerary that winds through the sites where the ancient clash took place, allowing visitors to deepen their understanding of one of the most significant events in Roman history.

Today, the Annibale al Trasimeno Museum offers an engaging and immersive experience, bringing together history, technology and the local area, allowing visitors to rediscover the epic charm of a battle whose echoes still resonate amongst the hills and waters of Lake Trasimeno.

In the heart of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, the Annibale al Trasimeno Museum uses multimedia installations and historical reconstructions to recount the famous Battle of Trasimeno in 217 BC, one of the most epic clashes of antiquity between the Romans and the Carthaginians.

[165184
76222,76221
28444
post-384047","what-to-see","type-what-to-see","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-tuoro-sul-trasimeno","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-perugia-en","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-umbria-en","what-to-see-category-museum
["GET
