The Kodra Houses, located in the picturesque village of Civita<\/strong><\/a> in Calabria, are a fascinating example of architecture that combines tradition and creativity. These unique houses are famous for their anthropomorphic shape, which resembles a human face. Originally built of thatch to escape taxes, the houses were later made of stone and are built on two floors, reflecting the typical Arb\u00ebresh\u00eb housing pattern.<\/p>\n

On the ground floor, once dedicated to warehouses, is a large door that looks like a gaping mouth, while the upper floor houses the living area. Here, the kitchen is dominated by a large fireplace and the bedrooms are simply furnished. The upper facade features two windows that not only allow light in but also serve to let out smoke during windy days. In the center towers a chimney that serves as a “nose,” thus completing the evocative appearance of a face<\/p>\n

Il nome “Case Kodra” \u00e8 un omaggio all’artista albanese Ibrahim Kodra, noto per il suo stile post-cubista e per la sua amicizia con Pablo Picasso. Durante una visita a Civita nel 1999, Kodra rimase colpito dalla bellezza di queste case, che ritrasse nel suo lavoro, vedendo in esse una somiglianza con i volti stilizzati delle sue opere. Nel 2005, la giornalista e sociologa Stefania Emmanuele, tornando al suo paese dopo anni di vita a Roma, not\u00f2 queste abitazioni e decise di battezzarle “Case Kodra” in onore dell’artista. Questo gesto ha creato un legame duraturo tra la comunit\u00e0 e la figura di Kodra, che mor\u00ec nel 2006.<\/p>\n

Le Case Kodra non sono solo abitazioni; esse rappresentano un simbolo dell’identit\u00e0 arb\u00ebresh\u00eb e un frammento di storia locale. Questi edifici raccontano il passato di una comunit\u00e0 legata all’agricoltura e alla pastorizia, che in inverno utilizzava queste case, mentre in estate si rifugiava in montagna.
