Built between 1540 and 1550 by Lombard and local craftsmen, the keep stands near the “Marina” gate, strategically positioned overlooking the sea and the ancient harbor. Its cylindrical structure, with a semicircular base, features trefoil barbacans and a parapet decorated with rounded battlements. Its name, which translates to “soldiers’ tower,” reflects the protective role it played against pirate threats, a constant problem for coastal resorts until a few centuries ago. Today, after restoration in the early 21st century, the Torrione houses the Torrione della Battaglia Museum, dedicated to the works of sculptor Pericle Fazzini.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Discover the Torrione della Battaglia in Grottammare, a historic 16th-century fortification now home to the Pericle Fazzini Museum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":333290,"template":"","village-conntection":[50743],"what-to-see-region-and-provinces":[76174,76172],"what-to-see-category":[101776],"class_list":["post-333294","what-to-see","type-what-to-see","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-grottammare-it","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-ascoli-piceno-en","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-marche-en","what-to-see-category-castle-rocca-fortress"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/what-to-see\/333294","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/what-to-see"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/what-to-see"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/what-to-see\/333294\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/333290"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=333294"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"village-conntection","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/village-conntection?post=333294"},{"taxonomy":"what-to-see-region-and-provinces","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/what-to-see-region-and-provinces?post=333294"},{"taxonomy":"what-to-see-category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/what-to-see-category?post=333294"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
