Imbued in the quiet charm of Castelpetroso, the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene is a small historical gem. Built in 1745, the chapel is located along the ancient road that led from Castelpetroso to Isernia, positioning it at the center of centuries of history and travel.<\/p>\n
Despite its small size, the chapel exhibits an unmistakable character. Its ribbed facade and exposed stone walls give it a rustic sobriety. Inside, the austerity of poor art contrasts beautifully with a fine canvas created by Molise painter Raffaele Gioia in the 1700s.<\/p>\n
The outdoor area is equally charming, with a square paved with stone slabs of various origins, surrounded by ancient oak trees. Just beyond the chapel, a botanical garden houses a variety of shrubs, herbaceous plants and trees, including olive trees symbolic of universal brotherhood and peace. A lawn adjacent to the chapel pays tribute to local emigrants, with two large olive trees planted in gratitude.<\/p>\n
The Magdalene Chapel was restored in the 1990s thanks to contributions from the Guasto community. The driveway leading to the chapel houses old farming tools, adding a touch of rural charm.
