Inside, on either side of the nave, there is a series of niches housing valuable sacred statues and works of art: from the Our Lady of Sorrows to the old wooden processional statue of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino on one side, and Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Joseph and Saint Francis of Assisi on the other.

A highlight of the church are the locally carved wooden urns containing the patron saints Trifone and Colomba, the robe worn by the saint being an original opera costume donated by Lina Cavalieri.

The origins of this place of worship are intertwined with the Franciscan monastic presence of the past. Indeed, the church was originally connected to a convent of Franciscan friars who looked after it. As a reminder of this history, the skeletal remains of these friars can be seen beneath the floor through glass hatches.

An interesting feature of the building is the refined altar area, which originally protruded beyond the semi-circular wooden choir, enclosed within a marble canopy with columns and composite capitals, and an altarpiece depicting the Immaculate Conception among the Saints.

The Church of Santa Maria dell’Immacolata Concezione in Onano offers a dive into sacred and artistic history through its works and relics.

[50886
76148,76153
30159
post-311332","what-to-see","type-what-to-see","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-onano-it","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-lazio-en","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-viterbo-en","what-to-see-category-place-of-cult
["GET
