The building was erected on the site of a pre-existing religious structure, of which the quadrangular chancel, covered by a dome in the Byzantine tradition, remains.<\/p>\n<p>This dome still preserves interesting pictorial decorations: the four evangelists are depicted on the pendentives, whilst the Last Judgement is depicted on the vault, in an iconographic ensemble that evokes Eastern spirituality.
