{"id":310423,"date":"2024-08-09T22:08:27","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T20:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/what-to-see\/cagnano-saint-michael-archangel-cave-2\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T15:18:32","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T14:18:32","slug":"cagnano-saint-michael-archangel-cave","status":"publish","type":"what-to-see","link":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/what-to-see\/cagnano-saint-michael-archangel-cave\/","title":{"rendered":"Cave of San Michele"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The Cave of San Michele is a natural karst cave, 52 meters long, located under the sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo in Monte Sant&#8217;Angelo, in the province of Foggia.<br \/>\nThe facade of the cave, made of gray rock boulders, is partly plastered, and the entrance is protected by a wrought iron gate dating back to 1932 and a wooden door dating back to 1898.<br \/>\nInside, the floor is made of rectangular stone blocks, on which you can see stalagmites and engravings of hands and feet left by the faithful.<br \/>\nThe sacristy is located in the west wing of the cave and contains an altar with a bas-relief of the face of St. Michael.<br \/>\nThe high altar is located at the back of the cave and is surmounted by an urn with four marble columns.
