The origins of the church remain partly shrouded in uncertainty, due to a lack of documentary sources, but certain architectural features clearly attest to the existence of an original medieval structure.

Among the oldest features are the portal on the north side, two side chapels now converted into sacristies, and above all the bell tower, which retains a clearly visible Romanesque character. These elements tell the story of the early stages of construction, which was subsequently altered and expanded over the centuries.

The interior features a three-nave layout, enriched by frescoed ceilings that help to create a solemn and evocative atmosphere. The true star of the liturgical space, however, is the historic organ, a precious instrument built in 1848 by the renowned Serassi family, in collaboration with the architect Ulisse Salis and the craftsman Francesco Bonacossa.

This is an organ of exceptional craftsmanship and musical quality, which underwent major restoration work in 2016.
