The large building probably stands on the site of an older place of worship: according to some theories, a church built on earlier Roman structures already existed here in the 11th century.

The façade features a large atrium supported by sturdy colonnades, which give the building a solemn appearance. Originally, the interior had three naves and eight altars; today, following successive modifications, the church is organised into a single large nave with five altars.

The interior houses several valuable paintings. These include a Last Supper attributed to the school of Veronese, together with paintings by Giovanni Andrea Bertanza, the Venetian Andrea Celesti and Gianbettino Cignaroli, as well as several works from the Lombard school dating back to the 15th century.

The elegant bell tower, built in 1722, predates the church by a few decades. The organ, built in 1811 by Luigi Montesanti of Mantua, was subsequently restored and modernised in 1906 by Don Cesare Sora of Pontevico.

Discover the Church of San Martino in Gargnano, a nineteenth-century building designed by Rodolfo Vantini with an elliptical plan, paintings from the Venetian school and a historic Montesanti organ.

[50707
76161,76159
30159
post-310177","what-to-see","type-what-to-see","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-gargnano-it","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-brescia-en","what-to-see-region-and-provinces-lombardia-en","what-to-see-category-place-of-cult
["GET
