{"id":309011,"date":"2024-08-09T21:11:26","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T19:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/what-to-see\/roccascalegna-st-peters-church-2\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T15:27:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T14:27:30","slug":"roccascalegna-church-of-san-pietro","status":"publish","type":"what-to-see","link":"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/what-to-see\/roccascalegna-church-of-san-pietro\/","title":{"rendered":"Church of San Pietro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The church of San Pietro in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/village\/roccascalegna\/\"><strong>Roccascalegna<\/strong><\/a> dates back to 1568, but an analysis of its architectural style \u2013 given that the apse is slightly rotated in relation to the central axis of the church \u2013 suggests that the structure reflects the \u2018reclinatio capitis\u2019 typical of the Middle Ages; furthermore, the date 1461 is carved into one of the arches of the chancel.<\/p>\n<p>The date 1805 is carved on the bell tower, which may refer to the date of its construction or to a period of restoration when the church ceased to be used as a burial site (a cemetery was subsequently built where the bodies originally interred within the church were reburied). The interior vaults are very low, and the church has a basilica-style layout with three naves and a central apse. The naves are divided by pillars decorated with pilasters, separated from one another by low arches.
