In 1638, it suffered severe damage due to a violent earthquake, but was subsequently rebuilt and completed in 1674, taking on the appearance we can still admire today. Over time, the structure was extended with a Neapolitan-style chancel, a dome and a bell tower, elements that lend the church an elegant Baroque character.<\/p>\n<p>The interior consists of a single, spacious nave, flanked by richly decorated side chapels. The 17th-century-style chancel stands out for the refinement of its architectural elements and the harmony of the whole. The interiors, embellished with Baroque stucco work, reveal an originally polychrome design, intended to enhance the luminosity and solemnity of the sacred space.<\/p>\n<p>The church houses an artistic heritage of great value, with works spanning various periods. Among these, the altarpiece *The Virgin of Mount Carmel* by Giuseppe Pascaletti, a *Madonna and Child* dated 1556 by Pietro Negroni, and *The Miracle of Saint Nicholas of Bari* by the renowned Francesco Solimena stand out.
