The village stands on a hill at 829 meters high above sea level and overlooks the underlying Valle di Vitalba.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/what-to-see\/lagopesole-castle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lagopesole Castle<\/a><\/strong>, the last and the largest residence commissioned by Emperor Federico II of Swabia in Basilicata is very well-known.<\/p>\n<p>It has been an abode of hunting and fun erected in a suggestive position and in an area of great strategic importance since the high Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p>In the courtyard of the castle was shot the scene of the movie \"<em>Il Vangelo secondo Matteo\"<\/em> (1964) by <strong>Pier Paolo Pasolini.
