Its origins are ancient, perhaps even Roman, as suggested by the tombstone of a sutor (shoemaker) found in the castle walls, evidence of a distant past that has its roots in classical times.

In the Middle Ages, the village established itself as the 'Castrum et villa' of the Marquisate of Saluzzo, assuming a strategic role in the political dynamics of the territory. After the fall of the marquisate, Castiglione passed to the Dauphiné and then to the Savoy with the Treaty of Lyon in 1601, entering permanently into the Savoy orbit. Over the centuries, it was a fiefdom of numerous noble families - including the Lomello and, above all, the Falletti families - who contributed to defining its historical and architectural identity.

The Castle, symbol of the village

The heart and symbol of the town is the majestic Castle of Castiglione Falletto, which dominates the town with its imposing quadrangular structure. The tall, massive central cylindrical tower is probably the oldest part (11th century), around which a unified complex with slender curtain towers and powerful defensive walls was developed in the 14th century.

In modern times, especially after the passage to the Savoy family, the castle underwent significant changes: embankments were built and the medieval curtain walls were lowered to adapt the structure to new defensive requirements. Inside, traces of early medieval decorations are still visible, testifying to the ancient prestige of the residence.

Between faith and tradition

From a religious point of view, Castiglione Falletto belonged to the diocese of Alba from its origins; in 1511 it passed to that of Saluzzo, then to Asti during the Napoleonic era, before returning definitively to Alba in 1817.

The parish church of San Lorenzo and the chapel of the Battuti dedicated to Sant'Anna are well worth a visit. The patron saint's festival celebrated at the end of July is named after Sant'Anna and is a time of gathering and conviviality for the local community.

In the heart of Barolo country

The municipal territory falls entirely within the area governed by the Barolo DOCG. Here, the wine-growing landscape, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, forms a mosaic of gentle, orderly hills that change colour with the seasons. Strolling through the vineyards or stopping at the panoramic viewpoints around the castle means immersing yourself in one of Piedmont's most iconic landscapes.

Small in size but big in history and oenological prestige, Castiglione Falletto is a village that perfectly embodies the soul of the Langhe: a harmonious synthesis of medieval memory, rural culture and extraordinary wine-growing vocation.

[50559
76341,76337
164887,35890
post-176187","village","type-village","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-castiglione-falletto-it","borghi-cuneo","borghi-piedmont","village-category-medieval-village","village-category-village-with-castle
["GET
